Mary Beth Edelson

Renowned as a feminist artist, Mary Beth Edelson excelled in printmaking, book art, collage, painting, photography, performance art, and writing. Edelson began her art studies at the Art Institute of Chicago, earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in fine arts. Inspired by artists like Matisse, Cézanne, and Manet, she frequently depicted mothers and children in her work. One of her primary objectives was to enhance the representation of art created by female artists in museums. She was instrumental in organizing the country’s inaugural Conference for Women in the Visual Arts.
